CALL FOR PAPERS - “Religious Orders & Christian-Muslim Relations”

International Symposium

Thursday, September 18 to Saturday, September 20, 2014

Sponsored by DePaul University & Benedictine University

Chicago, Illinois, USA

The rise of the mendicant orders in the thirteenth century was a pivotal time in the history of Muslim-Christian relations. But members of other religious orders have also engaged with Muslims in significant ways, both before and after this key century. Scholars at Vincentian- and Benedictine-sponsored universities (DePaul and Benedictine, respectively) will host a symposium to explore the contributions of a wider range of Catholic religious orders (e.g., Franciscans, Dominicans, Jesuits, Vincentians, Benedictines, White Fathers, Trappists, etc.) to historical Christian-Muslim relations, from the medieval and early modern eras up to the nineteenth century.
